The fact is, if you’re a public figure, and especially if you’re a controversial public figure who flaunts taboos and social norms, you’re going to get criticized, hated on, and beclowned. This is the price you pay to affect the public conversation.
You have to decide for yourself if what you have to say is worth the cost. If this process turns you into a bully, a fool, or a fragile histrionic, it’s because you’re not saying anything worth standing for. The solution is not to control your haters. It is to have better thoughts.
Obviously this goes for me too. Me most of all - I have the best, most interesting controversial taboo ideas and I’m going to damn well talk about them because I want people to listen to me. Hate me if you want, clown me if you can, and quote this shit back at me if I complain.
