this guide https://t.co/EIdpj41a7J is where I'm staying, for getting the OS onto the machine. it starts with editing the partition table on the SD card. with `fdisk` πŸ˜…

πŸ—¨οΈ 2 β™Ί 0 🀍 7

11:15:01

well, the partition table is fine but the first attempt at installing to the SD didn't work. plugged it in and nothing happened. fan no spin, monitor "NO SIGNAL"

πŸ—¨οΈ 1 β™Ί 0 🀍 4

11:26:42

i undid the unnecessary `sed` command from that guide and at least got it to boot. can't read the sdcard though. my computer can read it just fine though?

πŸ—¨οΈ 1 β™Ί 0 🀍 3

11:36:54

I think this is because I installed the 64-bit version of Arch. apparently there's a bunch of closed-source Pi-specific code in the 32-bit version, i'll try that

πŸ—¨οΈ 1 β™Ί 0 🀍 5

13:21:34

okay. reinstalled GRUB on main, hopefully it boots again next time. reformatted the whole SD card and ran the instructions again and -- we're in! i would show you a picture, but i have somehow lost my phone in my own house β›ˆοΈ

found it. Long story. anyway the Pi is now running on the projector, Arch Linux is loaded, the wireless keyboard/touchpad even worked out of the box. this isn't going to be as hard as I thought 🀞 https://t.co/LOiOWppIID

i have now added a user, created the `sudo` group and given sudoers permissions. this means that I can do root commands for my user account, without the dangers of logging into root. you have to use vi to edit the sudo file. only took me three tries and one reboot to exit

what GUI should i install? probably a window manager? X or Wayland? answer quick to influence my decision

πŸ—¨οΈ 5 β™Ί 0 🀍 1

21:15:47

I'm gonna try to use wayland. not for the meme but for graphics capabilities! it apparently uses the lil GPU a lot better than X. Enlightenment has some kind of Wayland support so I'm trying that for now. tiling managers maybe later
