I have been testing the Google ecosystem as a prototype Collaborative Human-Agent Dialogue over the last six months and I have to say: it is very good.
Remember, a CHAD is the opposite of the WIMP interface. It’s a ubiquitous computer, with language as its basic metaphor, constantly tracking your data and bringing information to you. Coined in https://robotface.substack.com/p/see-and-point
Down with the manipulation of icons! Up with centaurs collaborating through natural language!
I should probably write a whole essay about this instead of tweets. For now I will note the Google things I have accepted fully into my life: Pixel 4a, Android 12 beta, Pixel Buds, Google Assistant beta, Digital Wellness beta, Chrome, GPay. I even logged into all my Gmails in one app.
Example: I have written most of this thread using Google voice typing, except for the part which I copy-pasted from the link above. And Gboard has a clipboard history so I was able to copy both the quote and the link without switching back and forth between apps again.
Example: On my ride to work I was listening to the leaked Kanye album DONDA, and I wanted to skip through one of the songs. But this leak file is just a single MP3 for the whole album. I touched my earbud for 3 seconds, said “skip ahead 2 minutes”, and VLC immediately scrubbed forward.
Example: I want to read this article because this sounds like this company has hit on a business model I’ve been looking forward to for a while. But it’s a really long article. So I say “Hey Google, read this to me” and now I have a podcast. https://www.notboring.co/p/scale-rational-in-the-fullness-of
