a lot of people seem to be repeating this understanding of ecology as if it’s some kind of debunking revelation, but out equally fallacious.
Forests are not “malthusian hell wars”. They are complex adaptive systems of intersecting cooperative guilds and niche producers, on their way to being closed canopies. Deforested areas, otoh, are much more like hellwars.
You probably only know the latter, because humans ecologically allied with grasses hundreds of thousands of years ago and have been destroying force and replacing them with short cycle early succession, grasslands for agriculture ever since. In the places where people actually lived in forests, they were largely terraformed environments kept fruitful for our needs by human tending over centuries.
You have to actually understand succession and the various forms of competition and mutualism if you want to have an intelligent conversation on these topics, instead of just shadowboxing with vibes and eyeball kicks. You should all actually go to an ecology sometime if you want to talk about it. I’ll take you
